ISSUE 04 · REV C The Transom Set

Eight categories are refused, each with a reason; the two most expensive refusals are product reviews and affiliate links, and both are kept deliberately.

Not detailed: what this set will not draw

issue 04rev Adrawn by The Transom Set (a named set, not a person)

A table of the categories this set refuses to draw with a reason for each
A refusal list is also a scope guard.
A three-outcome flow for borderline topics
Deferred is not refused, and neither is a guess. Not to scale.
A checklist showing the two refusals that cost the set the most traffic
Both refusals are deliberate and both are recorded here.

The list, with a reason per line

Not drawnReason
Product reviews and rankingsa review needs comparative testing this set does not run, and without it the sheet is an opinion with a link in it
Affiliate or sponsored contentthe set has no revenue relationship with any manufacturer, and introducing one would change which sheets exist
Project galleriesjudged by photograph rather than by measurement, which is the opposite of what this set does
Warranty, liability and claims adviceno responsible party here can answer a question about somebody's exposure
Price, lead time and supply chainnot properties of an assembly, and they change weekly
Whole-building energy modellinga different calculation with a different owner and different inputs
Specification writing for a projectthe set describes what an assembly measures; it does not write anybody's specification
Anything without an extra incha sheet that repeats the first page of results has no reason to exist

The two refusals that cost the most

Refusing product reviews removes the highest-traffic content in this subject area, and refusing affiliate links removes the obvious way to pay for the set. Both refusals are kept because the alternative is a set whose sheets exist to move a purchase rather than to answer a measurement question, and readers can tell the difference, which is exactly why the measurement sheets would stop being believed.

What happens when a topic is borderline

If a topic needs a test this set cannot run, it is refused. If it needs a test this set can run but has not run, it is deferred and listed as an open question. If it needs a test this set has run on one assembly, it is published as a revision with the specimen, the condition and the result stated, and it is marked as a figure that can move.

A refusal list is also a scope guard. Without one, a set drifts toward whatever gets traffic, and the drift is invisible until the site is a different site.

Documents this sheet is drawn from

  1. 1The Facts about the Component Modeling Approach (CMA) - NFRC Informational Packsupports the certification route that a product comparison would have to match
  2. 2FGIA Technical Resources (standards and codes related to building design)supports the industry technical resources the set's scope is bounded by
  3. 3NFRC Technical Documents (technical standards index)supports the technical document index that defines what a test method has to state

Each line points at one specific document, with its own title as the link text. No line is a home page and no line is a search result.

Sign the sheet and stop Sign the sheet and stop if your question is on the list. The set will not answer it, and saying so is the useful part.
